Summer Old Fashioneds We Love

With the bounty of fresh fruit in season, summer is the perfect time to experiment with your event’s cocktail menu. Put a twist on classic cocktails by emphasizing the freshness of the ingredients.

Below are four unique ways to serve a classic Old Fashioned while tapping into the taste of summer:

Spicy Mango Old Fashioned

1 ½ oz Jacob’s Ghost White Whiskey

4-6 chunks fresh mango

1 oz simple syrup

1 half-moon orange slice

2 dashes Angostura bitters

1 tsp Tajin fruit seasoning

Directions: In a mixing glass, combine mango, simple syrup, orange slice and bitters. Muddle. Add Jacob’s Ghost and ice. Roll two times and pour into rocks glass. Garnish with fresh mango slice and a white cherry, and sprinkle with Tajin.

Blackberry Old Fashioned

1 ½ oz Basil Hayden’s

1 oz simple syrup

4 blackberries

6-8 mint leaves

Angostura bitters

Directions: In a rocks glass, combine blackberries, mint and simple syrup. Muddle. Add Basil Hayden’s and fill with ice. Stir slightly and top with bitters. Garnish with lemon peel and two blackberries.

Mandarin Ginger Old Fashioned

1 ½ oz Jim Beam bourbon

½ mandarin orange, peeled

6-8 mint leaves

¾ oz ginger syrup

2 dashes cherry bitters

Splash of ginger beer

Directions: In a rocks glass, combine orange, mint and ginger syrup. Muddle. Add Jim Beam and ice. Top with ginger beer and stir slightly. Top with cherry bitters; garnish with an orange slice.

Fig & Vanilla Old Fashioned

1 ½ oz Jim Beam Devil’s Cut

1 oz vanilla fig syrup

1 half-moon orange slice

Splash of club soda

2 dashes Angostura bitters

Dried fig

Directions: In a rocks glass, combine orange and vanilla fig syrup. Muddle. Add Devil’s Cut and ice. Top with club soda and stir slightly. Top with bitters; garnish with a dried fig.
